Dec 19, 2011 · In case anyone comes looking for info on these LSI 1608 or 1608e RAID controllers (either on-the-MB or on a card), the current mptsas drivers available in recent Linux distros still have not worked for me (but I'm dealing with an on-the-MB controller and the ones on actual cards may behave differently, for all I know).

The SAS 9300-8i 12Gb/s SAS Host Bus Adapter provides bandwidth for critical applications in 1U/2U servers and workstations. Support for both SAS and SATA drives gives flexibility in designing storage architectures and helps protect existing infrastructure investments.
I am setting up Dell Precision 7910 workstation that has LSI SAS 3008 controller and 2 SAS drives connected to it. Posting in Server forum According to the Precision 7910 Owner's Manual, page 57: "NOTE: SATA is configured to support RAID mode. No SATA operation support in Tower 7910."

The two 8-lane (of PCIe 3.0) models available are the LSI SAS3008 HBA (IT) and LSI SAS3008 HBA (IR), which both include mini-SAS HD connectors to meet the SAS 3.0 standard. These HBAs leave behind the bottleneck of 6Gb/s SAS to enable enterprises with the most robust performance requirements to achieve their IT goals when paired with the right SSDs.
An SAS3008 in IT mode (or SAS2008/2308) is the safer bet, but it's quite likely that mrsas will work just as well. By the way, did you have to manually load mrsas instead of mfi? FreeNAS used to default to mfi, even for controllers that supported mrsas, but that was supposed to have been patched out.
5. Then according to the documentation, just run SMC3008T.nsh and follow the instruction to enter the last 9 digits/characters of the SAS address. Sorry Vlad a noob req I cannot passthrough my SATA HDD to my XPEnolgy VM in ESXI 6.5 If I connect them to LSI 3008 flashed in IT mode may I see them?
